Here’s a new feature for you Web Woman Marketing fans. One Minute Marekting Tips. Hope you enjoy watching thesee as much as I enjoy making them. Stay tuned.
There was a time, when I first started on the internet that we would go to a business to get web design clients and 90% of the business owners didn’t even have a computer on the premises, much less an email address. We were told that the internet was just a fad (after all, Bill Gates actually said so back then). It was a hard sell. We were the pioneers and had the arrows in our backs to show for it.
Then came the stage where everyone knew they needed a website, but they really didn’t know why and even the web designers of the time were essentially clueless. Websites were built, but they were essentially electronic billboards with little if any interaction between the website and the visitor.
Along came the opt-in form and email marketing was born. This led also to the inundation of spam on the net, because people were making scads of money selling information to email marketers as a shortcut to the proper way of doing it. (We will cover email marketing in a future class.)
In the meantime, RSS was born (Really Simple Syndication) which allowed people to subscribe to content put into blogging format (blog is actually e-speak for “web-log”). A new way of communicating with a set group of people and gathering your tribe or fans together.
These days, blogging is ubiquitous online on pretty much any topic you can imagine. I challenge you to find a topic that is not being covered by any kind of blog. If you do, put the topic title into the SEOBook Keyword Tool and I believe you will find that absolutely no one is searching for it. If you do find a topic that is not being covered by a blog and it is a popular search term, jump on it. You have found a gold mine.
In this class we will talk about search engines, what they want and why blogging is their favorite content. The whole purpose of this series of internet marketing classes is to teach you how to become the 500 lbs gorilla on the internet and blogging is a key factor. Over time you will discover why establishing a content-rich blog with targeted keywords and engaging content can become the hub of your marketing no matter what your industry, product, service, affiliate program or network marketing company. This is basic. This is key.
So here is the recording of Class 4. You may want to listen to it more than once.
And here is the slide from the Writer’s Unblocking Kit.
One of my absolute favorite cross-platform apps is Evernote. This handy dandy notebook app is so incredibly versatile and I promise you, you will find it not only useful, but once you start using it, you will find more and more amazing ways to use it to become more productive.
Step one is to install it on all of your devices, your computer, your phone and any tablets you may own. Once you have done this, you have now linked all of your devices in a way that will seem like magic.
Did you ever get an idea for your business while having a conversation, watching a presentation or just sitting on a plane or any situation where you are away from your computer? Enter Evernote. Whether you have wifi in that area or not, Evernote is there on your phone or tablet waiting for you to take notes. But WAIT…THERE’S MORE!!!! You can record your voice on this lovely little app or a conversation to replay later. You can take a photo via Evernote using your phone’s cam and add notes to it. This is great while shopping. If I see something that interests me in a store, but I am not there for that purchase at the moment, I use Evernote to take a photo and add a note as to which store, the price and even what aisle I found it in. I can even email my notes to someone else in real time.
Now here’s the cool part. When I do all of this on my phone or my tablet, the next time I get on my computer, all of the notes, photos or recordings are right there on my computer. I didn’t have to download it or sync it or any of those things. Evernote automagically updates all changes you have made in documents and you have instant access to anything you have created in it on any device you have it installed on.
Here are some of the things I do with Evernote:
- Write down business ideas as they occur to me when I am away from home
- Create blog posts
- Notes for talks and presentations
- To do lists
- Notes from client conferences when I am on the road
- Take a photo of a business card while networking and add notes about what we discussed
I would love to hear from you about how you use Evernote. Feel free to comment below.

So now that we know how important the right tool for the job is important, it is time to introduce you to your very first marketing tool.
You will be spending a lot of time with this free tool. If you are wise, you will make time at least once a week to play with it and take notes. This tool is exploratory in nature. It is going to help you find your tribe, that ideal customer we discussed in our last class. It will help you think like your customer and give you insight as to exactly what they are searching for.
Some people use this tool for SEO. Some people use it for inspiration in creating their next product. Some will use it to design their internet marketing strategy. Some will use it to spark their muse, to write blogs that are more to the point. Some will use it to design brochures, presentations and website that push every hot button their customers might have.
Do I have your attention yet? This tool is as important to your business as a hammer is to a carpenter or a wrench set is to a mechanic. And the cool thing about it is that is is free to use. I don’t see how it can get any better than this.
Over time we will introduce you to many amazing tools that will help you to work smarter while you are working harder. Here is the recording to Class 3.
Regardless of how amazing your product or service is, regardless of how profitable your marketing opportunity may be, without marketing, nothing is sold and no profit happens. Just knowing how to market your business online will avail you nothing, if you do not put what you are learning into motion. So, do your homework.
There is a big emphasis on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) out there on the internet. People are paying thousands of dollars to get someone to create SEO for their websites to somehow get themselves to the front page of Google or other search engines.
May I offer a somewhat radical and controversial opinion about that? The premise of SEO is that you can somehow trick the major search engines into putting you into a desired ranking spot and that is what you need to do to get your site found on the internet by your tribe. One of the large purposes of this series of classes is to dispute that premise that assumes that te best way to get your website found online is to get found on the search engines. Experience has taught me that “it ain’t necessarily so.”
Class number 2 in our series “Internet Marketing Education With The Web Woman” is foundational. In this class I will teach you an ongoing principle and a vital task that you will need for the rest of the time you work online.
What if, instead of trying to trick the search engines into helping you, instead you created internet properties that attracted the search engines and other powerful entities to you? What if you could somehow magnetically attract your ideal customer to you with every post you make, with every product description you create, with every social media article you write, with every video you post on YouTube and other video sharing platforms?
That is where this series of internet marketing classes is taking you. This class will give you the first step towards a unique marketing journey, but you need to do the homework. Here you go:

In everything we do there is a starting point. As we progress, none of us are on the exact same level or have the exact same playing field or goals. In internet marketing this concept holds true. When we market online, promoting our business and building our brand, we are all at a different place.
I often have people say to me, “Bonnie, you are so smart.” when what they really mean is that I know a lot about the internet and how to market your business online. But it wasn’t always that way. At one point, in 1996, I discovered the internet. I had been looking for a way to promote my videography business, so my ears were open and my radar was on.
But, I’ll tell you how green I was. When I signed up with my internet service provider, I got home and dialed up the number on my computer’s router and nothing happened. I tried several things, but nothing seemed to work. Finally I called up the service provider and told them that the disk they gave me wasn’t working. The customer service person asked me, “So what browser are you using?” My reply? “What’s a browser?” That is where I started.
Everyone starts somewhere. This class is about beginnings. Some of you already have a website, some of you have been marketing for awhile. Some of you are brand new and you know you want to make money online, but you have no clue. So this class is about taking inventory. I hope you enjoy it.

Probably the most rewarding thing I have done over the years is teaching new online marketers how to do internet marketing properly. There are a lot of “gurus” out there willing to teach you “the secrets” of online marketing for a very large price. They parcel out their wisdom guardedly with the understanding that once they have trained you, you become their competition.
This page is a little different. There is nothing withheld. Every free class I teach is solid information, updated as needed (because the internet changes sometimes from one moment to the next). You won’t find any fluff or hype here.
This is about you learning a step-by-step approach to marketing online.
- No pie-in-the-sky promises
- No “set it and forget it”
- No “put your business on autopilot
- No big ticket hype
- Just solid information that will bring the people to your site who want what you have
I will be posting every class recording with the accompanying homework (yes, I said homework) slide to help you stay on track and move forward. If you “friend” me on Facebook and then private message me, I will be happy to add you to our private group that supports these classes.
